Description

The integration of RStudio in VREs revealed the fragility of this technology. We need to reinforce the mechanisms and the policies governing this "integration", e.g.

  • it should be possible to have multiple instances of RStudio serving a VRE, these instances should serve diverse users (horizontal scalability);
  • the number of concurrent sessions a single user can launch should be limited to a maximum that takes into account both (i) the capacity of the hosting machine and (ii) the estimation of users to be served by the instance;

This ticket is intended to

  • identify the major drawbacks characterizing the current approach;
  • propose a short term strategy and action plan to mitigate the identified drawbacks (a new course expected to use RStudio by the ICES MSY VRE will take place on 14th and 15th February);
  • propose a long term strategy and action plan*;
