Description

Task Leader: CLS; Participants: FAO, GRID-A, ENG;
This task aims to apply SARTOOL and related software to analyse EO (Copernicus) datasets, including a human validation of output, and produce OGC compliant data. To achieve this goal, a VRE will be developed for specific projects to use and validate the semi-automated production of Aquaculture maps. The validation effort includes aqua-farming sector scientists, managers, farmers and decision makers that will exploit: (a) open data combining performance, environment, regional and socio-economic datasets, (b) a framework to support performance analysis and benchmarking, and (c) a fundamental baseline set of indicators and models providing the performance metrics in
question.
The Task includes activities such as:
• Analysis of requirements of VRE stakeholders and detailed planning for its implementation; this includes the types of features to be identified, the EO data products that are available and the computational requirements;
• Identification of the appropriate models and algorithms with required inputs, and their association to the infrastructure via a variety of infrastructural means;
• Delivery of tools by extending and revising existing platforms so that these comply with infrastructure needs and requirements and meet involved stakeholder needs;
• Collaboration with external users to ensure that the produced maps meet their needs in terms of data quality and availability (e.g. as input to the NASO maps environment).

In particular, the following components will be developed and integrated:
• An integrated and innovative environment for (SAR) images analytics, e.g. to recognize spatial features in imagery, to validate imagery, add definitions and review boundaries;
• An interactive tool to review the spatial context of Aquaculture through overlays with other maps and summary reports meeting managerial needs;
• A facility to define and refine ontologies to describe and recognize image features;
• A service to interactively describe features on images using features names and quantitative measures;
• A collaborative workspace for collection of ancillary data and reviewing of the produced maps.

The following Resources will be integrated and reused in order to provide the required capacity:
• EO Products, SAR imagery, and optical imagery (from archive, and to be provided by projects);
• CLS Algorithms, e.g. based on their ontology driven SARTOOL;
• FAO NASO fact sheets;
• D4Science serviced biodiversity data, e.g. species distribution maps and species occurrence points;
• D4Science ocean observation data, maps or vectorial layers such as coastlines or administrative boundaries, and pre-existing aquaculture information.
