With ICES a discussion is ongoing on the selection of algorithms and models.

R. Thorpe thoughts: (primarily based on python and Fortran)
a. Development of a multimodel ensemble forecasting system for fish stocks, analogous to what is done in weather forecasting/climate modelling. This would be a big job; a subset could consider a 20th century hindcast of the north sea as a test case.
b. Development of individual-based stock models in which the population dynamics is an emergent property of the system (e.g. no parameterised stock-recruitment).
c. Multi-species/Multi-fleet ensemble model – currently developed for North Sea ecosystem, but would be adapted for Irish Sea ecosystem

Once individual models / algorithms are selected, tickets can be created.

According to the discussion occurred during the PEC, no specific VRE is envisaged for ICES. The algorithms stemming from this activity will be deployed in the StockAssessment VRE and any other forthcoming VRE.
